-The Ibero-American Conference of Tourism Ministers and Ambassadors celebrated its 20th edition with leading figures from Spanish and Ibero-American tourism in attendance
Miguel Mirones, the president of the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality, called on Spanish American Tourism Ministers to agree on an Ibero-American candidate for the UNWTO General Secretariat during the Ibero-American Conference of Tourism Ministers and Ambassadors (CIMET). Although no official announcement was made, the Colombian minister, María Claudia Lacouture, has indicated the possibility of Colombia opting for this important position and also mentioned that she hopes to count on support from the rest of the Ibero-American governments. Miguel Mirones highlighted the fact that Colombia has the people with experience in tourism policy management both at the highest level of the public sector and in the private sector in the associative area – along with diplomatic experience – and they would respond perfectly to the required profile for this important position.
The Ibero-American Conference of Tourism Ministers and Ambassadors- which takes place in collaboration with the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE), and with FITUR – celebrated 20 years of uninterrupted conferences and managed to bring together leading figures from the Spanish and Ibero-American tourism sector.
During the event, Miguel Mirones received the Commemorative Medal of CIMET’s 20th anniversary as Proponent of Spanish Tourism in Ibero-America, together with Tourism Ministers of those countries and other distinguished tourism advocates at the conference. These included outstanding figures from the Spanish tourism sector such as Miguel Fluxá – Chairman of Iberostar, Abel Matutes – owner of Grupo Fiesta Hoteles, Carmen Riu – owner of Riu Hoteles, Juan José Hidalgo – Chairman of Globalia, Joan Gaspart – President of the Tourism Board and Chairman Husa Hoteles and José Meliá – the former owner of Grupo Melià.
