  1. The Black Swan at Oldstead

If there’s one word that describes this restaurant is in Oldstead, in the UK, it’s rural. Owned and run by the Banks family with Tommy Banks heading the kitchen and his brother James managing the front-of-house. An “Oldstead” style with plenty of tradition and a splash of modern exuberance.

Dishes are prepared using seasonal ingredients taken directly from their own gardens. The tasting menu costs £95 and tables can only be booked up to three months in advance. One Michelin star.

  1. Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons

Second place also goes to another establishment in the UK, this time in Oxfordshire. This restaurant obtained two Michelin stars 30 years ago and has retained them every year since. It serves a lunch menu for £95 and at night offers a à la carte or set menu for £141. It also offers seven-course lunches and dinners and a weekend special.

  1. Maison Lameloise

It opened its doors for the first time back in 1921 in Chagny in Burgundy, France and since then has been awarded three Michelin stars, making it a veritable institution of French gastronomy. Under the leadership of chef Eric Pras, it serves innovative cuisine that gives centre stage to the product and pays special attention to the combination of wines and food. The tasting menu costs €215.

  1. L’Auberge de I’ll

Located in the French Alsace, this restaurant has been in the hands of the Haeberlin-Baumann family for more than 150 years and boasts three Michelin stars. The kitchen is currently run by Marc Haeberlin. It offers a traditional tasting menu for €132 and a youth menu for those under 35 for €109. Attention to detail is paramount, and the restaurant is divided into different rooms all with excellent views of the river and forest.

  1. Martín Berasategui

Martín Berasategui’s restaurant is in Lasarte (Guipúzcoa), Spain and boasts no fewer than three Michelin stars. The style here is known for its intense perfectionism with the dishes strongly based on Guipuzcoan cuisine. The front-of-house is managed by his wife, Oneka Arregui and a team of professionals who seem to choreograph the service. It was also named the best restaurant in the world by TripAdvisor in 2016.
