When we hear the word, “spa” it’s reminds us of relaxation, peace, calm, places with pastel tones, chill out music playing in the background, tingles on your skin before a relaxing massage… But some of these places go way beyond the weird and bizarre. You can’t even begin to imagine how far some of them go.
Have you ever had a sound bath in a spa? If you fancy trying this almost mystical experience, you’ll need to pop over to the Integratron in the Mojave Desert in California. The experience lasts about 60 minutes, and you’re surrounded by crystal bowls that create sounds in tune and consistent with the different chakras in your body.
Sounds like a scam, right? Well, maybe not, music legends like Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin, Moby, and Jason Mraz have all visited it on more than one occasion, and say it has the perfect acoustics. It was built following the instructions of aliens and using Nikola Tesla’s plans, and is said to be built on top of a geomagnetic anomaly. A spa to expand your senses…
Next up is a dive into the sea to visit the world’s first underwater spa. LIME, in the Maldives, provides massages to spectacularly balance your body and mind, thanks to the combination of special sea oils and the panoramic views of the sea reefs as you enjoy a soothing massage.
Lake Heviz, near Budapest, is the largest thermal lake in the world. The mildly radioactive water in the spa attracts a huge influx of visitors. The water keeps the temperature warm and constant throughout the year and is beneficial to those suffering from rheumatic, muscular and nervous system disorders, and gynaecological problems.
Now, we head south to the land of the rising sun, Japan and discover a spa with pools filled with everything imaginable except water. Hakone Kowakien Yunessun, about an hour’s drive from Tokyo, offers visitors pools of tea, coffee, sake, and wine in the mountains. It’s a unique experience that’s difficult to find elsewhere. The coffee supposedly reduces cellulite, the tea rejuvenates your body, and if you go for the wine bath, your skin is protected by several different antioxidants.
There are a million and one different types of spas out there, and another day we’ll show you a few more. For today, we’ll leave you with a very special place: Ada Barak’s Spa in Northern Israel, with its snake massages.
