We’ve just finished getting over the Christmas spread, and we’re already thinking about 2019 and all the exciting plans that lie ahead for the new year.
Nowadays, the trend seems to be to spend more time enjoying “real” experiences, moving away from digital screens and opting for more direct and personal contact.
So disconnect your mobile, forget about selfies and videos, throw your backpack over your shoulder and check out some of the festivals during the first few months of 2019.
Say hello to 2019 with the WAN Festival on January 1st with electronic music, house and a host of DJs at La Nueva Cubierta de Leganés in Madrid. A landmark space in the city which brings together artists like Boris Brejcha, Joseph Capriati, Luciano, Richie Hawtin, Solomun, Anna Tur, Goncalo, Karretero and Raúl Pacheco.
Next up, also in Madrid, we have ‘Fitur es Música’ on January 25-26. This is the first edition of the festival with rap and trap artists headlining the event at the Ifema Pavillion 1 from 7pm onwards.
In February, we head to Lugo for the sixth edition of A Candeloria, which aims to revitalise Galicia’s most representative bands and maintain a commitment to making music more accessible to all. 2019 will be the last year of the festival, and the organisers have promised many surprises.
Ibiza Spring Fest takes place at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel from March 18-23 with exclusive pool parties, trips to the beach and visits to legendary clubs on the island. Bronze, silver, gold and platinum packs are available to suit all budgets.
Primavera Trompeta Festival is back for its fifth year in Jerez de la Frontera from April 11-13. The festival has changed venue this year for the occasion at the Circuit de Jerez.
Another big one in April and back for the fifth time is the Southern Metal Fest 2019, which mainly focuses on southern, stoner and groove metal. The festival takes place at Siroco in Madrid, with artists like Krazark, Khayman, River Crow and Acid Cannibals already confirmed to play.
Then at the start of May, we have Viña Rock celebrating its 24th edition. The most popular rock music festival in Spain. On May 2nd, 3rd and 4th, the town of Villarobledo in Albacete will once again offer an extensive selection of rock, punk, hip-hop and reggae artists.
The fourth edition of En Órbita kicks off on May 11th. This is a one-day, urban festival at the Feria de Muestras in Granada with several stages hosting big-name artists like Fangoria, Love of Lesbian and Miss Cafeína.
And with summer approaching we have many more festivals to choose from during the ‘festival season’.
Palencia Sonora celebrates its 16th edition from June 7-9, which is already a festival reference in the area and over the three days of the festival offers music, cinema and exhibitions. Iván Ferreiro, Ladilla Rusa and Los Vinagres have all been confirmed to play. In addition to the stages, the festival also provides green areas, rest areas and free camping.
The second edition of Conexión Valladolid takes place at Pinar de Antequera on June 21-22 with Angel Stancih, Beret, SFDK, Rozalén, Depedro and Carolina Durante all billed to play.
And last but by no means least, we have Río Babel, one of Madrid’s big events of the year on July 5-6, with a very eclectic line up of fusion, mestizaje and rock at IFEMA.
As you can see, there’s no excuse not to get your groove on, whatever type of music you’re into!
