Canada and Holland have unveiled a new project that will let you fly passport-free between the two countries.
Passengers need to download the app to their mobile phone and present the personal data that appears on the screen. Voila!
This new and highly innovative project aims to reduce the time and effort needed to check and verify airport data and reduce the time passengers spend with the whole process. The project is still being tested, but most likely, it will soon be a thing in the not too distant future.
The project is called KTDI (Known Traveller Digital Identity) and was designed to deal with the expected increase in international travel in the coming years.
How does the app work? It’s very simple. The information that appears on your passport is shown on the app and linked to the chip of the phone where it’s downloaded, so the contents cannot be modified or altered.
The GEF head of mobility, Christoph Wolf, said that current airport systems for checking travellers data are not sufficient and this project offers a better solution.
In terms of security, the developers are quite confident as when users download the app; they give permission to the Border Services Agency and the airlines to access their personal data.
Passengers travelling between Toronto, Montreal and Amsterdam, can store their personal information on their phones, which is encrypted using blockchain technology.
