Discover the world’s most unusual hotels

Inca Rail has drawn up a list of the world’s most eccentric hotels:

Previously, you wouldn’t have envisaged a world in which you could stay in a room surrounded by sharks or rent a room hanging from a tree. Nowadays, however, these dreams are a reality, with various hotels from all across the world offering accommodation options in the most unimaginable locations.

For more information about these hotels, Inca Rail has drawn up a list of the world’s most eccentric hotels:

  • Hotel Kakslauttanen & Igloo Village – Finland

If you love winter, the Igloo Village hotel will be right up your street. This hotel has various igloos made of glass, allowing you to enjoy the starry night’s sky, and real igloos made of snow for a more authentic experience. In addition to organising husky and reindeer safaris, this hotel also rents motorbikes and ski equipment.

If you stay in this hotel between late August and April, you’ll be able to marvel at the sight of the Northern Lights.

  • Hotel Karosta – Latvia

If you ever wondered what it’s like to be in prison, here’s your chance to find out! This hotel is located within the former Karosta military prison. It has some rooms in which thin mattresses are placed on top of metal-framed beds, and others where the mattresses are strewn across the floor. The showers, meanwhile, only produce cold water, and you may—depending on the service—be on the receiving end of military punishment.

This hotel offers “behind the bars” and “fleeing the USSR” programmes, which last for a couple of hours.

  • Poseidon Undersea Resort – Fiji

This is the hotel for sea lovers. Located 30 metres deep inside the Pacific Ocean, each suite has its own garden of corals with views of underwater life. It also boasts 2 restaurants, a cinema, a library/lounge, gymnasiums, a golf course, a tennis court and various swimming pools.

If you like the sound of getting married under the sea, this hotel has its own underwater chapel that would be perfect for your big day!

  • Natura Vive Skylodge Adventure Suites – Cusco, Peru

This hotel is a genuine one-of-a-kind. It offers a wonderful panoramic view of the Sacred Valley.

It consists of 3 ecological glass ‘capsule’ suites that are suspended on the side of a mountain. To reach the suite, you need to go trekking, travel across a zip line or climb 120 metres up the side of the mountain. Each suite measures 7.5 metres long by 2.6 metres high and 2.6 metres deep, containing 4 beds, a dining room and a bathroom.

This hotel organises extreme sports and adventure activities in the region.

  • Magic Mountain Lodge – Chile

This mountain-shaped hotel has a “green design” and its very own artificial waterfall, with water pouring down the side of the hotel from the summit. This hotel provides an excellent chance to go zip-lining, cycling, trekking or hiking. It also enjoys access to the Mocho Choshuenco volcano.

If you’re planning on travelling with kids, you should note that this hotel has its own reading room, mini golf course, thermal baths and a Magic Carpenter events room.

  • Free Spirit Spheres – Canada

Would you stay in a hotel suspended in mid-air? This hotel gives you the chance to discover this magnificent experience. It consists of 3 wooden spherical rooms that are suspended in mid-air, attached to surrounding trees, with electricity and running water. Only the bathrooms, showers, and the barbecue/picnic area are located in the lower part.

The materials and heating system used in these wooden spheres mean that the rooms can withstand temperatures of as low as -20 degrees!

Are you brave enough to try a different sort of holiday?
