Your final destination won’t be Hogwarts, nor will you have to head towards platform 9 and 3/4 to find it, but that doesn’t take away from the excitement of travelling on The Jacobite, the Scottish steam train that became famous after appearing in the Harry Potter films.
The first trip in 2018 is scheduled for Easter, March 30th to be more precise, and from then on, it will continue running until the end of the year. You can check the days and times on the West Coast Railways website.
West Coast Railways recommends booking tickets as far in advance as possible as places tend to sell out quickly.
The round trip between Fort William and Mallaig covers 135 kilometres in six hours and passengers get to enjoy the views of the Ben Nevis Mountains, Loch Morar and River Morar and finally finishing up at Loch Nevis. The train also crosses the 21-arched Glenfinnan viaduct that was made famous in the Harry Potter films.
The train may stop when crossing the viaduct, time permitting, for some photo opportunities, so make sure to have your camera or smartphone at hand. All aboard!
