Beer is the drink of choice for many of us, especially when the weather is great and you’re at the beach, but is it possible to find good beer in the Riviera Maya? You bet, it is! Keep reading to discover everything you need to know about one of the most popular drinks in the world.
It’s a bit risky to say what’s the best beer (in the Riviera and globally), it all depends on individual tastes. However, there are at least three important points to consider.
The first is quality. A good beer should be distinctive, and it shouldn’t leave an after-taste in your mouth. Undesirable flavours and aromas such as vinegar, acetone and plastic are a big no. Secondly, beer needs to be served at the right temperature; otherwise, its flavour deteriorates. And last but not least, consistency. All brand beers should taste the same, except for some subtle differences, but the same beer should always taste the same.
With this in mind, if you’re visiting the Riviera Maya, you have to try some of the local beers with unique flavours like Cancún, Tulum, Akumal, Mundo Maya, Farito, Tatich, Pescadores, Curvato and Cozumel.
Akumal is produced by The Independent Brewing Co, which was the first brewery to appear in Playa del Carmen, Solidaridad in 2012. Cancún’s Pilsner and Stout, both of which are popular among the locals.
The famous Tulum larger was introduced to the region by the Gran Arrecife Maya Brewery. By buying this beer, you support the Great Mayan Reef Foundation, which promotes the use of avocado seed straws and biodegradable containers.
Tatich fuses the artistic with the artisan and is one of the best-known beers in Quintana Roo as it’s sold in many bars and restaurants in Cancún.
Don’t forget to try some of these local beers on your next visit. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by their refreshing and delicious flavours.
