Five options for travelling by car with the family

When you have kids, your needs and preferences change substantially when it comes to choosing a new car. The capacity of the boot, number of seats, interior habitability and storage space quickly take the place of features like power, acceleration and exterior aesthetics

CITROËN GRAND C4 PICASSO

An easily recognisable and reliable MVP that’s well known on the market, and comes with 643 litres of luggage space in the boot and space for a third row of seats. One of its strong features is its impressive handling qualities, which is surprisingly unusual for a car that’s almost 5m in length. The amount of storage space is impressive, and it makes excellent use of all the available space in the car’s interior.

PEUGEOT 5008

It hasn’t been on the market very long but is destined to be one of the big models in the family vehicle area. It must be said, however, that this is more similar to an SUV than a people carrier and is extremely versatile off the road. Just look at the car’s specs: 780-litre boot, Grip Control system with several driving programs, and a central console and i-cockpit system to facilitate driving.

HONDA CR-V

A solid bet, both for the car’s interior and its 589-litre boot, and of course its three Isofix anchors in the row of rear seats, which acts as an excellent safety plus as a child restraint as the row of seats is attached to the car’s chassis. Honda has once again improved on what was already a great car.

MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER PHEV

A highly stable SUV with many advantages including extra interior space, a hybrid EV system and fuel consumption of just 1.7 litres/100km. It also lets you drive more than 50km in electric mode. The battery charges with a power plug in about five hours, although using a fast-charge device it can reach 80% capacity in just 30 minutes. The boot, 489 litres of storage space…

SSANGYONG RODIUS

A seven-seater MVP and an 875-litre boot and the third row of seats doesn’t affect the capacity of the boot. This, in itself, makes it stand out from other models in this market segment. It’s a long way from aesthetically pleasing, but a great car for big families.
