Henri Giscard d’Estaing received the French Personality of the Year Award from the COCEF (Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in France) on December 12th in Paris. With these awards, this institution recognizes the work of companies and personalities that actively participate in improving relations between Spain and France, supporting exchanges and generating employment.
The President of Club Med thanked the distinction, pointing out that this award is a public recognition of the work carried out by the French all-inclusive resort group in recent times with its commitment to return to Spain, a benchmark for international tourism, and specifically to Marbella with a flagship for Club Med and a benchmark for the city. “Although the tourism industry has experienced some difficult years, Club Med has been able to adapt to this new situation and, today, it is fighting to consolidate itself as one of the main players in the tourism sector worldwide,” said Henri Giscard d’Estaing.
The commitment and involvement of the French all-inclusive vacation group Club Med with its return to Spain at the hands of the new Premium resort Club Med Magna Marbella has favored that, in the words of its President, Henri Giscard d’Estaing, “we have achieved our main objective: that the return of the chain to Spain after more than 20 years has been in less than a year a resounding success of occupation and involvement with the local community”.
Balance since its opening May 2022
In the report published this December by the specialized consultancy Colliers, it is reported that during 2022 companies and investment funds have allocated 67 million euros to new works and 161 million to reforms in hotels on the Costa del Sol. Occupying Málaga the third Spanish destination where there has been the greatest hotel investment this year, with 228 million euros, 14% of the Spanish total, of which
67 million have corresponded to new hotels and 161 million to carrying out reforms. Among them, from Colliers, the comprehensive reforms of Club Med Magna Marbella stand out, which officially opened its doors on May 14 of this year and has had an average occupancy of 90% throughout the summer, consolidating itself in less than a year like all exit.
The resort has had an average occupancy of 90% since its opening. And it will close for the season on January 8th, 2023 until February 25th, with an occupancy of more than 80% by the end of the year.
Regarding the prospects for 2023, Giscard d’Estaing stressed that “one of the lessons that the health and financial crisis has left us is none other than to assimilate that in the future there will not only be uncertainty, but also obstacles that will be reproduced periodically and for which we must be prepared.” However, he claims to face 2023 “with new projects and great enthusiasm”.
Six countries make up 93% of the tourists that the all-inclusive Club Med Magna Marbella resort has received between May and October 2022. More than half of the tourists that arrived in the first six months after its opening came from France (61 %). The rest of the list continues with other French-speaking countries, such as Belgium with 15%; followed by 7% of the English market and 5% of the Swiss market. Spain and the Netherlands share 2% of the hosted clientele.
Environmental commitment
Club Med, aware that the planet’s resources are limited and that tourism has a strong impact on the environment, has launched the Happy to Care program and its stays have sustainability certifications, specifically: BREEAM and Green Globe.
To limit the environmental footprint, the resort has been built from an existing building. Club Med Magna Marbella is equipped with solar panels designed to supply the necessary energy to heat the water and a rain collection and treatment system, which will be used to irrigate the gardens. All single-use disposable plastic has been eliminated in the bars and restaurants of all Club Med Resorts as part of the Bye-Bye plastic program. In addition, as part of its “Happy to Care” CSR program, Club Med aspires to obtain the Green Globe certificate for the daily management of the Resort.
