The award recognises Ilunion Hotels for its work in the area of accessible tourism for all and its support in changing attitudes, breaking down barriers and making the sector more inclusive.
The new category of the UNWTO Awards, considered to be the most important awards of the World Tourism Organisation, aims to recognise the commitment and work of tourism companies and associations in promoting and implementing the principles of the Global Code of Ethics of Tourism.
Ilunion Hotels’s pioneering policies and its exemplary commitment in the area of universal accessibility is applied in its business model, which not only means considering customers with disabilities and other access needs but also its employees and providers. For these reasons, the Jury believes the hotel chain is a clear example of innovative corporate social responsibility and is more than deserving of the award.
The Jury of the UNWTO Ethics Award is made up of its President, Pascal Lamy and members of the World Committee on Tourism Ethics, an independent and impartial body responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism.
The 13th Awards Ceremony with take place on the 18th of January 2017 in Madrid, in collaboration with the International Tourism Fair (FITUR).
The UNWTO Ethics Award was created in 2016 and is open to all the companies and associations who have officially signed the private sector commitment with the UNWTO’s Global Code of Ethics for Tourism.
