On November 18th, just like every year since 2012, Cozumel Island will host the sports event that brings together the world’s top performers.
The Caribbean is home to many sporting activities and events, with something to suit all tastes, skill levels and aptitudes. However, Cozumel Island has acted as the perfect setting for the famous IRONMAN Cozumel since 2012. An incredible event with competitors and spectators surrounded by turquoise sea water, the second largest coral reef in the world, and Caribbean traditions that will stay in your memory and heart forever.
The international competition began in the city of Cancun, however, once the old Cozumel Island road was restored and could be used as a track cycle, the organisers of the event decided to move it to the island.
The event is divided into two stages, with the first part starting with a single-loop swim around the island. The waters of the Caribbean in this area are teeming with tropical fish that inhabit the ecosystem.
The 3.5km swimming competition kicks off at Marina Fonatour at 7:15am and ends at the platform of Chankanaab Park.
The second stage of the race is a 180km bike race, three laps of the island on a flat road, which takes competitors along the spectacular coastline and then through the centre of the island.
The finish line is at the City Hall, where hundreds of spectators and supporters will greet the competitors with Mexican music and a party atmosphere to celebrate.
The entry fee for the competition is $700 and includes all sports equipment, a long-sleeved shirt, backpack, medal, food, during and after the competition, massage after crossing the finish line, an electronic chip, among other things.
More than 1200 Mexican and international athletes are expected to take part in the competition, and the first 40 across the finish line will get a direct pass to compete in the 2019 Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
