What’s the Jordan Desert Trek?
The Jordan Desert Trek is a fantastic eight-day trip in the desert starting at the Dead Sea and finishing in the red rock city of Petra. This once in a lifetime trip (November 18-25, 2017) offers you the chance to take in the incredible sand landscapes, sleep under the stars and discover the history of important archaeological sites. But, that’s not all; the Jordan Desert Trek is also to raise funds for the charity of your choice.
Jordan Desert Trek participants will enjoy a lifetime an epic 8-day experience through the desert with Bedouin guides.
- Day 1: Depart London Heathrow for Amman, Jordan and transfer to the Dead Sea Hotel.
- Day 2: The day begins with a swim in the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, before continuing with a transfer to Wadi Arava, which connects the Dead Sea with the Red Sea. You then begin the trek to the first camp at the biblical Feinan copper mines.
- Day 3: You start with a challenging eight-hour trek that ascends from the low valley floor at Feinan to Faron in the Black Mountains, and includes a visit to Um el Amad, an ancient Roman site used for copper smelting.
- Day 4: You follow the well-trodden Bedouin paths with vast, barren, rugged and incredibly beautiful scenery. Occasionally, you’ll catch sight of the Crusader fortress at Shaubak that towers majestically over the desert. After the 22km trek, the group arrives at the camp in Um Elada.
- Day 5: A seven-hour trek across the highland desert with a visit to Beidah (‘Little Petra’), which was a major caravanserai during the Nabataean period, and today, is considered an archaeological wonderland. At the end of the trek, you reach the camp at Moeesra.
- Day 6: Today, the group arrives in Petra ‘The Rose-Coloured City’ to explore and admire every nook and cranny of this spectacular archaeological site, including the old monastery, treasury and library.
- Day 7: You have the option to return to visit Petra once more or travel to Wadi Rum, the location of numerous well-known movies including Lawerence of Arabia. There is a celebration dinner at a local restaurant in the evening.
- Day 8: Depart Amman, return flight to London
