Alaska’s curiosities appear to go one further when we think of the capital Juneau, which, however impossible it may seem, cannot be reached by land. Yes, it’s true – the capital of the largest state in the US is located in a remote area that can only be reached by plane or boat.
Discovering Alaska’s remote capital, Juneau, is relatively easy as it only has 75km of roads and both sides lead to a dead end. The city is charming and appeals to tourists for its architecture as much as for its location, spreading from the snowy mountains to the frozen sea.
The coastal mountains push Juneau close to the sea, and not too far from the city will you find the deeply-rooted Mendenhall glacier, melting its improvised iceberg sculptures into the curved lake that shares its name.
