Nudist beaches in Andalusia

Beach naturism is becoming increasingly popular in Spain, with Andalusia leading the way with the longest stretches of beach to practice nudism, in fact, it now has more than 50 recognised nudist beaches.

Sunbathe and have a dip in your birthday suit in one of the many relaxing and natural environments spread across Andalusia.

Today we show you the main Andalusian naturist beaches grouped by province so you can easily find your favourite spot to enjoy on your next holiday.

1. NUDIST BEACHES IN MALAGA

Playa de Costa Natura (Estepona)

This beautiful 850m long beach is located near the town of Estepona.  Easy access. You can find showers, bins, and rental hammocks with parasols all along the beach.

• Playa de Cabopino and Dunas de Artola.

In Marbella, naturists have one of the best beaches in the Costa del Sol,  Playa de Artola – Cabopino. This beach gives visitors a special feeling of freedom, surrounded by dunes with pines and native flowers complement the 1.2km of fine golden sand. The area also has a naturist area, which tends to get crowded in summer. Torre Ladrones, an old watchtower of Roman origin declared a Monument of Cultural Interest in 1985, is located just a few metres from the beach.

• Playa de Benalnatura (Benalmádena)

This nudist beach is just a stone’s throw from the town of Benalmádena. The beach is surrounded by bamboo, palm trees, cacti, aloes and other Mediterranean trees to shelter this oasis from prying eyes. It also has a beach bar, showers, toilets and a barbecue area, but unfortunately, it’s usually very crowded in summer. One word of warning, this is a purely nudist beach, so be prepared to leave your clothes aside, even to go to the beach bar.

• Playa de Guadalhorce (Malaga)

This beach is located at the mouth of the Guadalhorce river, next to the capital itself and has a mix of visitors, some nudists and other not, although there’s an area exclusively for naturists. There’s also an area for bird watching next to the beach. The perfect spot to disconnect from the city also staying in it.

• Playa de Almayate (Almayate)

On the coast of Almayate, this one is known as one of the most secluded, unspoilt beaches in the province of Malaga. This area is a lot quieter than the west coast, which makes this semi-urban beach nice and relaxed. There’s a nudist beach bar and a campsite behind the beach where you can also practice naturism.

2. NUDIST BEACHES IN GRANADA

• Playa de Cantarrijan (Almuñécar)

Playa de Cantarrijan is set in a wonderful location, near the Maro-Cerro Gordo Cliffs Natural Area in Almuñécar. The cliffs imposingly define the uniqueness of this beach with its crystal clear water and create the perfect spot for snorkelling and diving. The beach has a mixed area and another exclusively for naturists, 2 beach bars serve food and drinks, and there’s an area with sun loungers.

• Playa del Muerto (Almuñécar)

This 400m long beach lies tucked away between Punta San José and the Peñón del Lobo Almuñécar. Both clothed visitors and those without a stitch mingle on the beach, which is an unusual mix of rock, stones and sand. Tends to get busy in summer and at weekends. The impressive cliff, known as Pico de Águila, presides over the beach to offer fantastic views of the surrounding area.

• Playa de La Joya (Motril)

A nearly virgin beach considered one of the best in Granada for naturists. Plan well for a day out here as there are no services or facilities. It usually fills up quickly in summer, but if you come here outside the summer season, you’ll have this piece of paradise all to yourself.

• Playa de Negratín (Cuevas del Campo)

The Negratín Reservoir also has a particularly attractive nudist “beach” with fine white sand on the banks of the lake. It’s also close to Cuevas del Campo, and with its almost lunar landscape offers visitors a different option away from the coast to sunbathe and have a dip au naturel.

3. NUDIST BEACHES IN ALMERIA

• Vera Playa (Vera)

Vera is a nudist destination in itself, but the northern part of the 3km long El Playazo beach has a certain appeal that keeps attracting nudist beach-goers back time after time. So, what’s the secret? Its crystal clear water, mountains and the fabulous compact sand that’s perfect for long walks or jogging. Rescue service available throughout the summer months.

• Cabo de Gata (San Jose)

Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park is home to some well-known nudist beaches. This is an area of immense beauty with some of the wildest and most secluded beaches in Andalusia. Playa de los Genoveses, Playa del Barronal, Cala de Monsul, Cala Grande and Cala Chica all offer the possibility to sunbathe in your birthday suit, but they’re all difficult to get to, especially the last two. These are all semi-virgin beaches with few services, so it’s best to bring plenty of food and water if you plan on spending the whole day there.

• Playa de los Muertos (Carboneras)

Another beach that’s also part of the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park is Playa de los Muertos, close to the town of Carboneras. This is a gravelled beach with small white stones that give the water a particular light turquoise colour. On the right side of the beach there are a couple of huge rocks, and just behind them, you can find different viewpoints and another smaller area for swimming between the rocks. The beach can get quite crowded in summer, so nudists and non-nudists have to share their summer along much of the beach. 

4. NUDIST BEACHES IN CADIZ

• Playa de Punta Candor (Rota)

The nudist beach in Rota is one of the most well-known in Cadiz. This semi-urban beach has all the facilities you’ll need for a relaxing day at the beach, and there’s a well-marked area reserved for nudism.

• Playa de Bolonia (Tarifa)

The dunes and pine forest around the beach make it one of the most impressive in the province and highly appreciated by all who visit. The designated area for nudists is called El Chorrito, but don’t be surprised if you stumble upon people covered in mud. The grey slate in the cliff face, when mixed with water, forms a therapeutic mud that you can smear all over your body.

• Playa de Arroyo del Cañuelo (Zahara de los Atunes)

Zahara de los Atunes is a beautiful fishing village on the coast of Cadiz which, in addition to all its cultural charms, has different nudist beaches. One of them is the Playa Arroyo del Cañuelo, where you can enjoy a privileged natural environment next to the sea, surrounded by pine forests, well-kept golden sand and inviting clear and calm water.

• Playa del Faro (Caños de Meca)

There are some beautiful small coves around Caños de Meca where you can enjoy an unspoilt stretch of beach surrounded by pine groves and forests. It can sometimes feel a little crowded in summer but keep walking, and you’ll find an area called “Las Cortinas” with spectacular natural waterfalls.

• Conil de la Frontera

You’ll find nudist beaches like Castinova in both the north and south of Conil that offer visitors the chance to try some windsurfing. However, check the weather forecast beforehand as it’s often too windy. Likewise, Playa de la Mangueta is a perfect beach for naturists, although it’s also open to those who prefer to keep their clothes on. Just choose the option that suits you best.

• Cala del Aceite (Conil de la Frontera)

As it’s a south-facing beach, the wind doesn’t blow with the same strength as in other beaches in the area. Cala del Aceite has a cleaning service, surveillance service and a beach bar. Just like the other beaches we’ve mentioned, Cala de Aceite also has an area specifically marked for naturists, although you’ll probably find more people wearing swimwear in summer than at other times of the year.

5. NUDIST BEACHES IN HUELVA

• Playa de Nueva Umbría (Lepe)

Lepe is home to one of the longest beaches in the entire province of Huelva. The 12km of immaculate, unspoilt beach is a popular spot, and there’s also a 5km stretch of beach at the eastern end of the beach for naturists. 

• Rompeculos & Cuesta Maneli (Matalascañas)

These two virgin beaches are located between Mazagón and Matalascañas on the doorstep of the Doñana National Park. They have one beach bar that only opens in summer. Both beaches are very wide and quiet, making them an ideal naturist’s paradise. You can leave your car parked in the paid parking area for just a few euros.

• Playa de Los Enebrales (Punta Umbría)

Playa de los Enebrales stretches along 2.3km of totally virgin sand surrounded by bushes. You access the beach by following the many wooden footpaths that connect the parking area next to the main road with the beach. You’ll never find huge crowds here, so it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a day out in your birthday suit.
