During SIMS 2019, aka Selina International Music Summit, which takes places in Mexico City from May 23 to 25, the organisers will offer guidance and answer questions on the current state of the music ecosystem in the country, what is being done well, what could be improved and how the scene can come to the fore with concerts, workshops and conferences.
This initiative aims to discuss urgent issues related to the music scene such as its current importance, its expansion and the way in which everyone involved (musicians, entrepreneurs, the public, venues and media) can contribute something. The first part of this event took place from May 16 to 18 in Colombia.
Consecutively, Mexico has prepared the programme of activities for SIMS 2019 that will be spread over three days with talks and conferences and musicians and bands playing live concerts.
The event kicks off on Thursday, May 23, with a conference from the WeTransfer and BBC 6 Music teams talking about ways to balance the relationship between business and culture through promising and successful partnerships.
There will also be an opening party on the first day organised by Giles Peterson, Ali Gua Gua and Kate Hutchinson.
The following day, on Friday, May 24, the conferences will focus on the importance of visual creativity in musical events, why concert venues should be encouraged and protected and the experiences of artists and their agencies when touring around the world.
The summit will also have workshops on how to benefit from technology communities and internet platforms to showcase musical talent. At the end of the day, Robot, Ela Minus, Noa Sainz and other acts yet to be announced will entertain and surprise those attending.
The organisers have kept the most insightful programme for the last day, on Saturday, May 25, with speakers from the Mutek and Nrmal festivals, and the Sicario agency speaking about the complexities involved in planning a festival in Mexico. Representatives from Spotify will also be there to speak about how a talent’s career can be boosted from the digital platform.
To close the event, one of the most important Mexican electronic music collectives, NAAFI, will take the controls for the last SIMS 2019 party with talented members of the team like Zut Zut, Mexican Jihad, Omaar, Wasted Fates and Tayhana all performing.
All the events take place at the Selina venue and tickets are still available to buy from Resident Advisor. Click here for the complete programme of talks and shows.
