Costa del Sol continues with its strategic tourism destination market studies, with Turismo Costa del Sol organising a Technical Workshop to discuss the behaviour of the domestic market.
José Carlos Escribano, President of the Málaga-Costa del Sol Tourism Forum, Óscar Perelli, Exceltur’s “Alianza para la Excelencia Turística” Studies & Research Area Director and Arturo Bernal, the Managing Director General of Turismo Costa del Sol all spoke during the day.
During the presentation of the workshops, Escribano stated that Spanish tourism has experienced “a significant growth potential in recent years”.Later on the same day, Arturo Bernal, the Managing Director of Turismo del Sol, presented the main figures regarding the behaviour of the domestic market with his talk “Evolution & the Current Situation of the Domestic Market in the Costa del Sol”.
Bernal provided a detailed version regarding the influx of Spanish tourism reaching the Costa del Sol. Last year, for example, 4.7 million domestic tourists arrived in the area, 134,000 more people and up 3% when compared to 2015.
He also drew reference to the domestic market’s economic impact in 2016, €4220m, up 9.3% on the previous year.
He also gave mention to the extremely high level of satisfaction among national tourists, 99.7% considered their visit to be positive or very positive.
Meanwhile, Exceltur’s “Alianza para la Excelencia Turística” Studies & Research Area Director placed emphasis on the good, trustworthy relationship between business people in the area and the state-owned tourism institutions and went on to say “Costa del Sol is an example to highlight in the public-private alliance.”
During his presentation, Óscar Perelli spoke about the important role Spain is playing on the international tourism scene and the advantage it has over other similar destinations thanks to the socio-political stability in Spain. In the specific case of the Costa del Sol, Perelli also said that the professionals working in the tourism sector “are doing things extremely well.”
Regarding 2017, Perelli predicted that “we’ll continue to grow, but less than other years” setting 3.2 percentage points of general growth from Exceltur.
